1948 Maureen Jones Joins the Musica Viva Ensemble
Personally I would like the whole world to know about Richard Goldner and what he did for music in Australia. His imagination and insight in creating a musical organisation centred on an ensemble from the ground up of such fundamental importance to a country at that time practically unaware of chamber music was unique.
Richard chose me to take part in this wonderful musical adventure. I will never forget this and I am forever grateful for the opportunity. Richard, Robert, Eddy and Teddy were all wonderful musicians. We tried with very hard work and with different musical ideas to develop a real chamber musical ensemble.
Remembering those days brings back wonderful memories and immense gratitude to Richard Goldner.
Maureen Jones was the pianist in the Musica Viva Ensemble from 1948-50 before moving to Europe. She has been a continuing presence in Musica Viva concerts since the 1960s and an inspiration to Australian performers.
